Winged Foot Golf Club occupies a special place in golf history and tradition. The Tillinghast designed course has hosted four U.S. Opens, and the historic clubhouse designed by Clifford Wendehack opened to immediate renown in the 1920’s.

Considering the past, present, and future of this historic campus, we worked with the club on a comprehensive analysis and master plan of all the built facilities. Keeping the member experience primary, we planned phased renovations that would enhance or restore views over the courses and to the clubhouse, rationalize car and golfer paths and use, and update the almost century old facilities.

The new Pool Complex and renovations to the historic grille room and men’s locker room were completed in 2013. Future phases include a new Pro Shop, continued work on the historic clubhouse, new maintenance buildings and employee housing.

As phase I of our master plan for Winged Foot Golf Club, the new pool house replaced a dilapidated facility from the 1950’s. Designed as “Gothic outbuildings” of an estate surrounding the main clubhouse, the new facilities are housed in four buildings that sit lightly in the golf landscape. Lockers for women, men, and families occupy the large central structure; a kid’s camp, restaurant, and party pavilion with views to the course circle the new pool deck.

Westhampton Country Club

Set on one of the early Tillinghast courses of the Hamptons, this clubhouse was conceived as a series of classical pavilions open to the golf landscape. All major rooms open to decks and porches creating easy summer living between inside and out. Parts of the club recall traditional Shingle Style forms and details — fish scale shingles, peaked dormers, sweeping eaves — while the grille pavilion suggests the ballroom of the original clubhouse — a converted boathouse from the mid-1800’s.

Harbor View Hotel

This classic “grande dame” of New England hotels overlooks Edgartown Harbor from the top of main street. Major renovations to the main building’s lobby, restaurant, bar, and porches, coupled with rebuilt cottages on the newly landscaped grounds restored the luster to a unique, authentic seaside hotel. We worked with Scout Real Estate Development to create a multi-phase plan adding rooms, cottages, and conference spaces making the Harbor View Hotel an elegant, memorable destination for individuals, families and large groups.
