Residence on the Coast of Maine

Located on the rocky coast of Maine, this house shows the robust detailing of northern examples of the Shingle Style. All the stone of the foundations and walls was quarried on site, giving the impression of the house growing out of the adjacent cliff. An oversize chimney crowns the house and promontory, and provides an anchor for the shingled wings, towers and porches. The house follows the jagged line of the coast giving all rooms open views across the ocean.
